Martinsville Uptown
Revitalization Association and
Gateway Streetscape Foundation
Inc. have partnered to promote
the
Memorial and Honor Tree Program
in Uptown Martinsville.
You may choose an
environmentally friendly way to
honor or remember a loved one or
occasion.
Your longstanding gift will also
beautify Martinsville Uptown. Sixty-one
trees have been planted since
March 2006, 27 have
already been sponsored.
-
Your donation of $200 to the
Gateway Streetscape
Foundation will
help purchase, plant, and
maintain your tree.
-
Locations are available
throughout the city, and if
you would like to choose the
tree, we can schedule a
meeting and discuss your
choices.
-
You can also drive along
Uptown on the street you
prefer. Trees without
plaques should be available
for sponsorship.
Please have three choices, as some of the
trees have been reserved.
-
Trees have a 10-year

Family members who sponsored a
tree in the past told us they
enjoy seeing their tree
throughout the changes of the
seasons and the sight of it
makes them happy and remember
their mother. Perhaps you
would feel the same way should
you sponsor a tree. Thank you
again for considering an Uptown
Memorial/Honor Tree. Please
call Susan McCulloch at
276/632-5688 or 276/618-0996
with any questions, to sponsor a
tree, or to schedule a meeting.
Please print and fill in the
form below and mail your
donation of $200, payable to
Gateway Streetscape Foundation
Inc., to Martinsville
Uptown, PO Box 614,

In
the trees
Bees
are buzzing in the
trees
Lovely little yellow
dots,
Staring back at me.
Flies
are buzzing in the
trees
Huge
hideous red eyes,
Staring back at me.
Butterflies are
flapping in the
trees
Lovely little fake
blue eyes,
Staring back at me.
And
yet…
Are
they really
Staring back at me

Save
the Trees
Every
tree that we cut
down
and
throw away and carry
out
is
one less tree to be
a home
for
busy bees and
honeycombs.
It’s
one less tree that
could become
a
child’s fort or
bluebird’s home
where
children sit under
the leaves
while
sun shines down
above the trees.
We
need these trees for
everything
from
furniture to apple
seeds
don’t
waste the trees that
give us food,
apples, bananas, and
other fruit.
Timid
Willows, mighty Oaks
save
the trees is not a
joke.
They
let us live,
breathe, exist
Save
the trees, don’t
resist.

Haiku About Trees
Trees
are beautiful
They
shine in the
sunlight’s rays
They
provide good shade.
Trees
have feelings too
Weeping willows are
sad trees
Dogwoods are glad
trees.
They
provide us things
Things of wood are
everywhere
Desk,
paper and chairs.
They
provide shelter
For
cold little animals
And a
lot of birds.
They
provide us fruit
Apples, oranges,
tangelos
They
are all awesome.
